New Students to HIDOE

Registration Procedures:  Kailua Intermediate School (KIS) serves students in the 7th and 8th grades. Students must reside within the school district with their parent(s) or legal guardian. Students living outside of the school district who wish to attend the KIS must apply for a Geographic Exception (which is due by March 1st for the upcoming school year). Students transferring from other schools, private or public, must bring a release from that school.

Program Requirements: The Department of Education has outlined academic programs for the 7th and 8th grades. Promotion guidelines and the sequence of courses are shown below.:

The student needs to have a minimum of two units of each core and two non-core units by the end of Grade 8 in order to be promoted to Grade 9.

Program changes: PROGRAM CHANGES WILL NOT BE MADE FOR 1ST CHOICE ELECTIVE COURSES. All changes must be made within the first two weeks of school. Changes must be initiated in a written request by parents, teacher or counselor and must receive the approval of the principal. For further information, please call 263-1500.
